Beanie Sigel To Release This Time LP Before Starting Prison Term

Beanie Sigel isn't letting his impending jail time stop him from putting in that work. On September 12 the former Roc-A-Fella recording artist will have to turn himself in to serve a two-year prison sentence for failing to file federal tax returns, but before that, on August 28, he will drop his fifth album, This Time.

The LP will come out on Ruffhouse Records, the same label that released acts like Cypress Hill and the Fugees in the 1990s.

"Regardless of this unfortunate situation, Beanie has created a tremendous body of work that is totally worthy of the Ruffhouse name,"

Ruffhouse CEO Chris Schwartz said in a release issued to popular blog site Hip Hop-N-More. "It's almost ironic that the sentencing is happening on the eve of this record, because this record is about introspection and redemption. Beanie is truly one of the great lyricists in the hip-hop game. He stands tall among all the major MCs and he's revered by all hip-hop aficionados around the world."

This isn't the first time that Beans has dropped an album while a jail sentence loomed over him. In 2005, Sigel released The B. Coming, a critically acclaimed LP he recorded before serving a yearlong jail bid.

In August the Broad Street Bully pleaded guilty to the tax charges against him and on Thursday (July 12) he was sentenced to two years.

According to reports, the rapper failed to pay more than $728,000 in federal taxes. It is estimated that the Philadelphia spitter earned more than $3 million between 1999 and 2005 but paid only $10,000 in taxes.

The first single off This Time is titled "The Reunion" and will be serviced to radio this week.
