Billy Joel insists daughter will be 'fine' following suicide bid

Alexa Ray Joel – daughter of the 'Piano Man' singer and ex-wife Christie Brinkley – was rushed to hospital on Saturday (05.12.09) when she was discovered by her friend after reportedly taking eight sleeping pills.

She was treated at New York's St. Vincent Hospital before being released later that evening.

Her famous father's representative said: "She is in a stable condition. She is going to be fine."

Although it has officially been claimed that 23-year-old Alexa took sleeping pills, sources claim she had taken the homeopathic antihistamine Traumeel.

A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Her friend said Alexa had taken pills and was feeling despondent. She said she wasn't feeling good about herself."

In August, Alexa described herself on her MySpace page as "forgotten".

She also revealed she hated dating and considered herself "terrible" at it.

Alexa – who split up from boyfriend Jimmy Riot twice last year – wrote: "I HATE the game-playing! Can't stand it."
