BILLY JOEL has been slapped with a lawsuit by his former drummer who is demanding unpaid royalties.
Liberty DeVitto said he helped the Grammy Award-winning singer on some of his biggest albums but has been denying him royalties for years.
A lawyer for DeVitto, who was Joel's drummer from 1975 to 2005, said he doesn't know how much his client is owed but Joel's sales will be subject to an audit.
DeVitto says he's working as a studio musician and teaching to support his family, including three children.
Joel has sold more than 100 million records worldwide. His spokeswoman has yet to comment.
