The Black Crowes have rejected Maxim magazine's apology for reviewing the band's new album without actually listening to it.
Black Crowes manager Pete Angelus has issued a statement saying Maxim's apology "is not full accountability."
Maxim had given the Black Crowes album "Warpaint" 2-and-a-half stars out of 5. The band says they didn't send out advance copies so the writer could not have heard the whole album.
Maxim editorial director James Kaminsky says in a statement its editorial policy is to assign star ratings only to albums that have been listened to in their entirety.
He says, "Unfortunately, that policy was not followed in the March 2008 issue of our magazine and we apologize to our readers."
A Maxim spokeswoman would not say whether the writer will face disciplinary action. Angelus says Maxim's apology is "self-serving damage control by failing to mention The Black Crowes."
He's demanding that Maxim apologize to the band. "Warpaint" comes out next Tuesday.
