Black Eyed Peas Drop New Single, 'The Time'

The Black Eyed Peas are back with more pummeling synths and mind-melding hooks on "The Time," the first single from the group's upcoming album, "The Beginning." 

"The Time," unveiled today on frontman will.i.am's social networking site Dipdive.com, borrows its chorus from the 1987 hit ballad "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," from the film "Dirty Dancing." The track continues the Peas' evolution from hip-pop to dance heavyweights, as will.i.am and Fergie sing and rap over a beat tailored to global dancefloors. "Yeah, it's gotta be the Apple, I'm the Mac Daddy, y'all," will.i.am says. "Haters, better step back/Ladies, don't load your app/I'm the party application/Rockin' just like that." 

Will.i.am shared his excitement over the Peas' new music in a blog post, writing, "The Beginning is our departure to the new...always pushing new sounds and technology...I can't wait till you experience all that we have been cooking up." The rapper/producer also said the group filmed its first video in Los Angeles before departing for tour dates in South America. 

"The Beginning," due for release Nov. 30, follows the Peas' 2009 album "The E.N.D.," which has sold 2.8 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That album's first two singles, "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling," spent 26 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, the longest uninterrupted streak of any artist in the chart's history.
