The Gossip Girl actress said that she was worried that her co-star was working out so much that he would look better than her, so she decided to employ underhanded tactics to redress the balance.
'It was just a way to sabotage Ryan,' Lively, 23, joked to People magazine at a Los Angeles press conference for the movie, which opens June 17. 'He was working out as much as he was, and I'm the girl. I'm supposed to look better.'
And Reynolds admitted that she found his weakness.
'For most actors it's coke and guns,' he quipped. 'For me, it's baked goods.'
