Blake Shelton: I'm no hero

Country star Blake Shelton insists he's no hero after saving people from a mudslide, claiming he was really rescuing them from their parents' wrath.

The 39-year-old star was driving in his native Oklahoma on Friday (13Nov15) when he came across two strangers who were engulfed in mud near the Washita River in Ardmore. He stopped to help and his efforts were praised by Bryar Blanton, whose two friends slipped into the quagmire, but Blake has downplayed what happened.

"I didn't save their (lives)," he told ET. "I pulled them out of the mud in order to save their lives from their parents.

"I knew what was going to happen to 'em. It was like, 'We've got to get you kids outta here because you're going to be grounded!'"

Bryar and his friend Adrian Poplin could only watch in horror as their pals Lenyell Blanton and Josh Turner got stuck. They had agreed to start walking down the road to get help when Blake approached them, and all of them are eternally grateful to the singer for getting them out of the sticky spot. The country star ended up getting a tractor to free the guys, but is pretty sure their families won't be too impressed by the tale - even if they did manage to score a photo with him after the rescue.

"They're probably grounded anyway," he laughed, "because they're talking about it on Twitter and probably got themselves in trouble."

The story came to light after the guys posted the picture on the social media, reaching out to Blake to thank him for his kind gesture. He replied: "No problem... Now you boys stay outta jail!!! Ha!!!"

Bryar also spoke to ET about the incident, praising Blake for being "an all-around nice, caring guy" who didn't play on his fame at all when he stopped to help.
