Country singer Blake Shelton can understand why people were surprised by his speedy divorce from Miranda Lambert as it shocked him too.
The two musicians announced their four-year marriage was over in July (15), and it was quickly confirmed the pair had actually already divorced. Blake has now opened up about why the pair decided to officially end their relationship so soon after splitting.
"In Oklahoma, it happens so fast," he told the Bobby Bones radio show. "Like, Miranda and I didn't have any kids, and we had a prenuptial agreement, whatever we had. Once we filed for divorce, it was over in, like, I think it was like a nine or 10-day waiting period until it's over."
Blake, 39, and his 31-year-old ex-wife were able to easily agree on their joint assets, which also helped the process stay on track. For the couple, it was vital that they moved quickly so any speculation about them couldn't take hold.
"We knew if rumblings and rumours started coming out, they would just be that," Blake explained. "By the time anybody knew anything, it was over... It was done."
Showing his characteristic jokey attitude, the star even remarked on TMZ breaking the story of his divorce.
"You can't get away with anything fun anymore because of them," he said.
Now the former couple hope people realise that while they aren't together romantically anymore, they are still close.
Following their split they have publicly spoken to each other on social media, with Blake explaining they are "buddies" first and foremost and that will never change. Both of the stars are "cool" about the breakup according to the musician, who has taken an "it is what it is" attitude towards the marriage breakdown.
When confirming their breakup, Blake and Miranda released a statement saying they had made the decision with "heavy hearts" as it wasn't something they had ever envisioned being in their future.
