Mark Hoppus says Blink-182 were 'too nice' to each other after returning from their hiatus.
The 39-year-old American star is a member of the popular punk band ' also comprising of drummer Travis Barker and singer-and-guitarist Tom DeLonge.
After tensions in the group, Tom left in early 2005, sending Blink-182 into indefinite hiatus. They eventually reunited in February 2009 and started work on their sixth studio album Neighborhoods.
Mark says the atmosphere was a bit too over-friendly in the first instance.
'We started writing new songs initially off the bat [when they first got back together] but it was too new. We were all being a bit too nice to one another,' he told Kerrang! magazine.
' think after four or five songs of recording, it really fell away because nobody was ready for the tension that we needed [to record].'
Tom is certain that previous issues won't resurface between the band. However, the 35-year-old musician says there will still be the odd argument.
'No-one wants the band to break up again. No-one wants to fight again. No-one wants to bum each other out, because we all enjoy this. We like what this is. So we're not going to call each other up and go 'You're a f**king a**hole, what the f**k?'' he explained.
'We know it can disappear really quickly, so we value it a lot more now. Because of that, everyone is really respectful of one another. We still butt heads, but when we come together, we say, 'Dude this is what I want, lets figure it out.''
