The 49-year-old singer spent four months in prison last year after he was given a 15-month sentence for the assault and false imprisonment of a male escort.
Speaking to Britain's Absolute Radio, he said: 'When I knew I was being released, I did have a moment when I was like: 'Do I really want to get out?'
'I can understand why people get institutionalised. You get a lot of time on your own and you do actually think: 'This is actually quite good.''
He added: 'I had a good job. I worked in the kitchen. I really liked the people I worked with. When I left they were really sad. They actually said to me: 'You're one of the best workers we've ever had here.' I was a grafter.'
