'Breaking Dawn' Shooting Plot Shut Down In Missouri

A 20-year-old Missouri man has been arrested after admitting that he planned to shoot up a local movie theater showing of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2." The Bolivar Police Department in Bolivar, Missouri, reported that Blaec Lammers was charged Friday (November 16) with first-degree assault, making a terroristic threat and armed criminal action. Lammers is being held on $500,000 bond.

According to a statement released by the Bolivar Police Department, they were alerted about Lammers' intentions when his mother contacted authorities Thursday, saying that her son had purchased weapons similar to the ones used in the "Dark Knight Rises" theater shootings in Aurora in July and that she was concerned he might be planning a similar attack.

The police department's report stated that an officer approached Lammers at the Bolivar Sonic fast-food restaurant, and he agreed to come to the police station to be interviewed. Lammers said during the interview that he had purchased two assault rifles for hunting but admitted to having "homicidal thoughts."

"Blaec Lammers stated that he had a lot in common with the people that have been involved in those shootings," the officers handling the case said in a statement released by the police department. "Blaec Lammers stated that he was quiet, kind of a loner, had recently purchased firearms and didn't tell anybody about it, and had homicidal thoughts."

Lammers also told police that he bought tickets to a Sunday screening of "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" and had purchased two guns with the intent of shooting people at the screening. He also said he thought about shooting people at the local Walmart because it would be convenient for him to get more ammunition there if he ran out.

Bolivar City Administrator Darin Chappell told local newspaper the Springfield News-Leader on Friday he believed Lammers was working independently and commended Lammers' mother for contacting the police.

"She did a heroic thing," Chappell said.
