Although we're happy to have rocker Bret Michaels back on TV in his new VH1 reality show "Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It," a part of us is slightly bummed that he won't be sitting alongside Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez on the new season of "American Idol," as was once rumored.
When MTV News caught up with the reality-TV star recently to talk about his new show, we asked his thoughts on almost making the final cut.
"I made it into the top five people. It came down to five people in the end," Michaels said. "I was disappointed. I'd love to have done it. I'm competitive, so it would have been great. On the other hand, to have J.Lo and Steven Tyler — one's a pop icon and one's a rock legend and both, along with Randy, are going to make such awesome TV."
Michaels said the contestants will be in good hands with Tyler. "He lays it out there. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's crazy, and I love that about him. I think he's going to be able to give them great advice," he said. "And I know J.Lo has been through it all. ... I think they've got it covered, and Randy's an amazing producer."
Although Michaels ended up being one of the final five contenders up for the "Idol" judge spot, he said that if he had to lose out to someone, he's glad it was Tyler.
"I can truly say that I lost to a worthy opponent," he said with a smile.
