Brian May and Midge Ure honoured

Two veterans from the world of rock have been acknowledge in the summer Honours list, which was announced.

The biannual national awards, given out by the Queen saw both Brian May and Midge Ure receives honours.

Ure has been granted a OBE in recognition of his “services to music and charity” which includes his instrumental role in organising Band Aid, Live Aid, Band Aid 20 and now the forthcoming Live 8.

Meanwhile Queen guitarist May's contribution to last year's Golden Jubilee celebrations â€" when he played a guitar solo from the roof of Buckingham Palace â€" has clearly not been forgotten as he gets a CBE for services to music.

Honours are awarded in the UK across many fields.
