Following their sell-out success at Branchage Festival in Jersey, British Sea Power return to London to perform their soundtrack to seminal 1930s documentary Man Of Aran, at the Union Chapel. British Sea Power will also perform an *exclusive* live acoustic set prior to their soundtrack, plus support from Rose Elinor Dougall (formerly of the Pipettes).
British Sea Power bring their epic guitar sound to the Union Chapel, performing their phenomenal live score to the rugged and windswept masterpiece Man of Aran. Evocative and elemental, the band's sweeping sounds intensify Robert J Flaherty's 1934 classic vision of Aran Islanders struggling to eke out a living against the backdrop of the unforgiving Atlantic.
Since forming in 2000, British Sea Power have continued to evolve and explore, creating performances and recordings far beyond the average guitar group. Their three albums eschew rock convention for eloquently crafted explorations of subjects ranging from the pioneers of aviation, to the 1953 floods, the great skua, and disappearing ice shelves.
Known as the 'father of documentary', Robert J Flaherty was striving to capture a vanishing way of life in his 1934 classic docudrama Man Of Aran. His camera takes in the struggles of the Aran Islanders, battling the elements on their barren rock in the inhospitable North Atlantic, barely holding on to an existence soon to be swept away by the waves of modernity.
British Sea Power's largely instrumental score complements Flaherty's pioneering cinematography, and makes for a mesmerising and unforgettable event.
