Schools may need to add a new check box to their absence form after illness, appointment and family vacation...going to a Bruce Springsteen concert.
Last month, Patrick Pipino, a Ben and Jerry's franchise owner in Saratoga Springs, NY, wrote a letter to his daughters' school district asking them to excuse their tardiness because of a Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band concert they had attended the night before. In part, he wrote "This may not seem like a good excuse, but have you ever wondered how many kinds would be late or miss school outright if God were to suddenly appear? It's something like that."
This past Tuesday night, Xabi Glovsky, 9, was taken by his father to see Springsteen at the Los Angeles Sports Arena but Xabi's father didn't have to compose an excuse for his son. Bruce did it himself.
Gavi carried a sign in the crowd that said "Bruce, I will be late for school tomorrow. Please sign my note :)"
Before the show was over, Bruce saw the note and had one of his people invite Gavi and his father, Scott, backstage after the show where he wrote the ultimate tardy note.
Dear Ms. Jackson,
Xabi has been out very late rocking and rolling. Please excuse him if he is tardy!
Best,
Bruce Springsteen
