Cage the Elephant will release their sophomore album, Thank You, Happy Birthday, on January 11, 2011. The new album was actually recorded in spring 2009 at Nashville's Tragedy/Tragedy Studio with producer Jay Joyce. The album was laid down in a two week creative burst, during the time their eponymous debut was released in the United States. Thank You, Happy Birthday will boast 13 songs.
"We initially were living in England and came up with 80 song ideas, some complete, some not," Cage the Elephant's Matt Shultz told AOL Spinner. "We started working on the second record and basically scratched all those ideas. There were a lot of things happening at that time; personal growth and growth as a band. We ended up renting some cabins at a lake in Kentucky and isolated ourselves in the middle of winter. No cell phone reception -- it kind of felt like Survivor."
Cage The Elephant will offer fans a vinyl 7-inch on November 26 to coincide with Record Store Day's "Black Friday" event. The 7-inch will feature two new songs called "Shake Me Down" and "Aberdeen." What generous chaps they are.
