Cee Lo Green fans are going to have to wait just a bit longer to see the "mind-twisting magic and sexified showgirls" the "Forget You" singer promised to bring to Las Vegas as part of his "Loberace" musical revue.
The theatrical stage show that was slated to open on August 29 at Planet Hollywood has been pushed back to early 2013 due to conflicts with Green's production schedule for the NBC singing competition "The Voice," according to a note on his official website.
Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino announced the postponement on Wednesday, revealing that the show will now kick off on February 27, 2013 and run through April 13. At press time, there were 28 shows scheduled for 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and midnight on Saturday.
In a statement Green said, "It's always been a dream of mine to be among the great music legends who have had a Las Vegas residency and I was very much looking forward to launching 'Loberace' this year. But as we move into the third season of 'The Voice,' with my dedicated commitment to the filming schedule and love for my role on the show, I will need to postpone the opening of 'Loberace' to early 2013. Most importantly, to all my fans who have already purchased tickets, please accept my sincerest apology and I hope you can still join me in Vegas next year, so I can properly and finally introduce you to my brainchild."
Fans holding tickets for the postponed performances can exchange them or ask for a refund, with new show dates going on sale on August 1.
In originally announcing the show, Planet Hollywood described it as a "truly unique," "electrifying" journey into the mind of Cee Lo inspired by Vegas legend Liberace. "More of a spectacle than a show, CeeLo, the conductor/ringmaster 'LOBERACE,' will take fans on a ride through the colorful decades of music, stopping at legendary moments in time, from Prince to Blue Magic to The Rolling Stones, new wave to disco and beyond. Visually, the production will combine CeeLo's flamboyant sense of style and over-the-top creativity, magnified and intensified, with his soulful voice covering some of his favorite music, as well as original songs. Part dance party, part live intimate concert, this energetic, exotic show will be as inspired and visually alive as CeeLo Green. There will be mind-twisting magic, sexified showgirls and the larger-than-life wardrobe and impressive stage design will out-glam and out-clever anything you've seen from this Muppet-ized, sequin-styled international Lady Killer to date."
