The 42-year-old singer delivered two boys weighing 5lbs. 10oz. and 5lbs. 4oz. respectively. The couple already have nine-year-old son René-Charles together and suffered many setbacks while trying to have another baby, with the new arrivals conceived during their sixth in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) attempt.
René, 68, has now opened up about the birth, saying neither he nor Céline can believe the twins are finally here. “We have tried five times since March 2009 to conceive. It's very hard. So when Saturday at 11:11 came, and they showed us the first baby that was crying, we were crying,” he said in an interview with Canadian television programme etalk. “It was a very emotional moment and even though we didn't speak to each other, we were both thinking about the time it took. We are very lucky, very privileged and very fortunate to have these boys."
The proud father revealed at the moment the babies look very similar, but he expects their appearances to alter in the coming months as they aren’t identical.
René-Charles is also thrilled about becoming a big brother, and can’t wait for his siblings to be old enough to play with him. His father explained he thinks his brothers look different, and has said one takes after “mom” and one “dad”.
“He was very, very happy that it was boys,” René laughed. “I remember a few months ago when his mom told him the day we would find out the sex of the babies, his reaction pointing to his mom’s belly was 'I hope there's not too many girls in there.”
Céline and her husband haven’t released the babies’ names yet.
