A statement from the producers of his hot sitcom said that the show Two and a Half Men had been put on hold while Sheen, 45, undergoes treatment at the undisclosed facility. 'We are profoundly concerned for his health and well-being, and support his decision,' they said in a statement.
It will be the actor's third rehab stint in a year, and comes after the increasingly frequent public debacles of the highest paid actor on television who reportedly earns over 27.5 million dollars per year.
There was still no official word on what prompted the sitcom star's emergency evacuation to hospital Thursday morning. Celebrity website TMZ.com maintained that cocaine played a part in the incident, after a dealer delivered a designer briefcase to his house filled with bricks of cocaine during a reported 36-hour party.
However, Extra TV quoted a friend of Sheen's as denying that drugs were involved and explaining that the comedy star suffered a hernia when he laughed too hard at a TV show. A spokesman for Sheen denied the latest report on the star's cocaine use.
Sheen was in the headlines earlier this month for allegedly consorting with porn stars and prostitutes in Las Vegas. He was hospitalized last month following an alleged cocaine-fuelled rager with another porn star, during which he trashed his hotel room, and prompted his guest to lock herself in the bathroom.
The actor was again ordered to rehab last August after pleading guilty to attacking his wife in an alcohol-fueled argument the previous December. He also checked into rehab in February 2010 in what was described at the time as a 'preventive measure.'
