According to US reports, the 45-year-old star has struck an unusual deal for his new TV series Anger Management that could turn out to be very profitable.
Sheen was formerly the highest-paid actor on US television, reportedly earning $2m per episode on the CBS show Two And A Half Men.
But instead of a high wage, he is reported to have negotiated for creative control and an unusually large share of ownership for the new TV show, which is based on the 2003 movie of the same name.
While similar deals traditionally give the star 10 per cent of profits, Sheen will get more than 20 per cent for Anger Management, a source reportedly told The Hollywood Reporter.
If the show is a hit and becomes syndicated, he could be set to make “hundreds of millions of dollars”, according to the industry newspaper.
But if it flops, the hefty percentage will count for very little.
'Charlie only gets the big money if the show is a big success,' said producer Mort Marcus. 'Incentivising Charlie makes him a great partner for both the network and us.'
The new show has yet to be picked up by any of the US networks.
