Sheen sent a text message to US entertainment site RadarOnline as he was checking into rehab.
"I'm fine," Sheen said. "People don't seem to get it.... Guy can't have a great time and do his job also?"
The Two and a Half Men star finished the text with a colourful description of people calling for him to seek help, calling them: “Bunch of turds.”
Bosses at the CBS network announced moments before the text was received that its hit sitcom is going on production hiatus while the $2m-an-episode star seeks help.
