The 45-year-old actor reportedly filed the $100m suit against producer Warner Bros and Two And A Half Men creator Chuck Lorre, claiming that he was wrongfully sacked from the CBS show and alleging breach of contract.
Sheen was the highest paid actor on American TV, earning a whopping $1.8m per episode before he was fired from the hit comedy series on Monday.
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in Santa Monica, asks for unpaid wages, along with compensatory damages of $100m.
The documents state: “Defendant Chuck Lorre, one of the richest men in television, who is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, believes himself to be so wealthy and powerful that he can unilaterally decide to take money away from the dedicated cast and crew of the popular television series Two And A Half Men (the “Series”) in order to serve his own ego and self-interest, and make the star-of the Series the scapegoat for Lorre’s own conduct.
“Notwithstanding that Warner Bros and Lorre were able to generate more than a billion dollars as a result of Charlie Sheen, the cast and crew rendering services on the Series, Lorre and Warner Bros decided unilaterally not to pay Mr Sheen or the other cast and the crew for the remainder of this season. Weeks before Mr Sheen publicly criticised Lorre, Warner Bros and Lorre decided to cut the season four weeks short.
“By this Complaint, Charlie Sheen is not only seeking payment of his own compensation for the Series, but he is also pursuing claims for the benefit of the entire cast and crew to get paid for the balance of the season’s 24 episodes.”
Production on the show was shut down last month, after Sheen launched a scathing attack on Warner Bros and Lorre on a live US radio show. Following a series of bizarre outbursts and erratic behaviour, Warner Bros sacked Sheen earlier this week.
A spokesperson for Warner Bros said at the time: “After careful consideration, Warner Bros Television has terminated Charlie Sheen's services on Two And A Half Men, effective immediately.”
It remains unclear whether the sitcom will return without Sheen, although rumours have now begun circulating about the possibility of another actor, such as Glee star John Stamos, being brought in to replace him.
