Jeff Rossen of NBC News tweeted on Monday that the actor was involved in talks with CBS, Warner Bros and the show's creator Chuck Lorre, about the possibility of making a return.
He wrote, 'Sources close to Charlie Sheen tell NBC News, CBS has offered him his job back. Discussions ongoing. Not a done deal,'
He later updated with, 'Per my sources: CBS is happy to have Charlie Sheen back on show...IF Warner Bros, Chuck Lorre, and Sheen can settle differences.
'To be clear, there are 2 companies involved. Sources say, CBS would be happy to take Charlie back, but he still needs to reach deal with WB.'
The 45-year-old star was fired from the show earlier this month after calling Lorre a 'turd'. He is said to have filed a subsequent lawsuit against Warner Bros and Lorre for $100,000,000 (£62m) plus punitive damages.
