The Anglo-French star inherited the talents of her musician father Serge Gainsbourg and singer/actress mom Jane Birkin, which she has put to good use with a hugely successful acting and singing career.
Charlotte has two kids with partner Yvan Attal - 13-year-old Ben and eight-year-old Alice - and is currently expecting her third child. The multi-talented star would be thrilled if her offspring decided to carry on the family tradition of entertaining.
“I would love for them to do something creative of course and I would encourage it. I remember looking at my mother [Jane Birkin] who was always having fun and as a child you can feel that,” she told the June issue of Psychologies.
“It wouldn't be a surprise if my children wanted to do the same.”
Charlotte, 39, attended last month’s Cannes International Film Festival to promote Melancholia, the Lars von Trier-directed picture she appears in alongside Kirsten Dunst. Lars notoriously made some shocking comments about being a “Nazi” during a press conference there, which he has since apologised for, and Charlotte admits working with him can be nerve-wracking. They had already collaborated on 2009 horror Antichrist.
“I didn't need to read the script,” she said of Melancholia.
“I just wanted to have a new experience with him. I was nervous about working with him again. It doesn’t mean I am relaxed about it, not at all. But it's good to have a bit of fear."
