CHRIS MARTIN has said the Brit Awards are the closest thing the music world has to the Olympic Games.
The Coldplay frontman said he enjoys the ceremony, which takes place in London's Earls Court tonight, and that he feels proud every time he wins an award.
Speaking to the Sun, Martin said: "I'm really looking forward to the Brits. It's the closest thing we have to the Olympics in the music world.
"Every time you win something it's like someone has attached a balloon to your arm. It gives you a little lift.
"I have respect for people who don't give a s**t about awards. But I like them. I can't pretend I don't. I think they're fun."
He added that the event is especially good because it is uncharacteristic to celebrate one's own greatness in the UK.
And he said he hoped somebody would get drunk tonight.
Coldplay have been nominated for four awards - Best Album, Best Single, Best Group and Best Live Act.
