Chris Martin has joked he is a "nasty green Christmas Grinch".
The Coldplay frontman was discussing his approach to shopping for gifts over the holidays. While his bandmates Guy Berryman and Will Champion take time to choose an appropriate present for their bandmates, Chris doesn't always put in as much effort. He even likened himself to the grumpy green character famously played by Jim Carrey in the 2000 movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
"I guess I'm like the nasty green Christmas Grinch," he is quoted as saying by British newspaper The Sun. "Sometimes I'll see something I think people would like and buy it regardless of birthdays or Christmas."
Chris recently admitted it was "kind of sad" that he forget to buy gifts for his Coldplay bandmates – also including Johnny Buckland - who he has performed with since the '90s.
Despite their longstanding friendship, the 35-year-old often overlooks festive gifts.
"Will and Guy are very, very good and they always give us lovely presents and Jonny and I are not very good. It's kind of sad!" he laughed to Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O.
Although Chris may not be embracing the Christmas spirit, he has been thinking of how to help others recently.
The star performed with REM frontman Michael Stipe at the Hurricane Sandy 12-12-12 benefit earlier this month.
It has now been revealed that Chris and his band members are teaming up with close friend Jay-Z to raise money for Newtown, Connecticut, following the tragic school shootings last week.
The rockers and rapper will auction four VIP tickets for their New Year's Eve show in Brooklyn, New York. The highest bidder will also get the opportunity to go backstage and meet the music stars.
Proceeds from the auction will go to a local mental health clinic in Newtown, Connecticut.
