Adele threw a "songwriting punch" with Someone Like You, says Chris Martin.
The Coldplay frontman is in awe of the British singer's talent. He's a huge fan of Adele's music and believes she's raised the bar for other artists.
While Chris admits that is probably a good thing, it's also made him worried.
"Adele is great, I feel that way about Adele's songs. When Someone Like You came out, I was like, 'Oh man,'" he recalled. "Someone throws a songwriting punch and you have to work out how to throw one back."
Chris insists he won't be the only one who views Adele's talent in such a way. Musicians are constantly sizing up the competition to ensure they are still relevant.
"There is definitely competition among singers. Everyone wants to write better songs than everyone else. It's quite a healthy thing," he is quoted as saying by British newspaper The Sun.
Chris isn't the only star to discuss Adele's talent.
Kelly Clarkson recently admitted she is a huge fan of the singer. Kelly would love to duet with Adele and claims other artists look to her for inspiration.
"Oh my God – I almost want to punch her she's so good! I saw her live three years ago in Boston and it was just the best gig," Kelly laughed. "Sometimes I listen to the radio and think, 'Oh no, my generation is ruining music!' Then Adele comes on and I'm in awe. Someone Like You is one of the best songs ever written."
Someone Like You features on Adele's most recent album 21, which has been a success around the globe.
