Chris Martin is the daddy

Coldplay frontman and newlywed Chris Martin has become a father.

Last Friday, Martin's wife and actress Gwyneth Paltrow gave birth to a 9lb 11 oz. baby girl at a private London hospital. The couple has named their daughter Apple Blythe Alison Martin.

A spokesperson quoted Martin as saying, “We are 900 miles over the moon and we'd like to thank everyone at the hospital who have looked after us amazingly.” Paltrow has hinted she may put her acting career on hold to raise their daughter, following in the footsteps of her actress mother Blythe Danner.

Courtship began soon after the pair had met in the summer of 2002 at a Coldplay concert. Martin, 27, and Paltrow, 31, married last December in Santa Barbara, California. They spent their honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Recently, Martin reacted to the leak of a planned world tour next year. Echo And The Bunnymen singer Ian McCulloch spilled the news and Martin demanded a retraction. A Coldplay spokesperson responded that there was no immediate plan for a tour.
