Chris Pine has emerged as the frontrunner to take the lead role in MGM's RoboCop reboot.
The Star Trek actor is the studio's top choice to play the half-man, half-machine law enforcement officer in the retelling of the classic 1980's action sci-fi film.
The 30-year-old is fast becoming the king of the reboots, having also won the lead role for the Jack Ryan film, Moscow, according to Movieweb.
Peter Weller and Robert Burke have previously protected Detroit's streets from the dangers of cyber punks and Nuke.
Jose Padilha has been charged with directorial duties, with a script written by Joshua Zetumer.
RoboCop is expected to be released in 2013.
