Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has confirmed the band will be entertaining fans during the 2016 Super Bowl half-time show.
Fans of the British rockers started to get excited on Thursday (03Dec15) when rumours swirled the Shiver singers would be headlining the coveted sports show. Now the band, the NFL and Super Bowl half-time show sponsors Pepsi have all released the news.
"We are so excited and honoured and thrilled to be playing the half-time show," frontman Chris Martin said in a video.
"It's going to be wonderful and I hope we see you there."
Chris added he was really nervous about the gig, which has seen the likes of Beyoncé and Katy Perry take to the Super Bowl stage in recent years.
"This is the greatest moment in our band's life," Chris beamed. "We are going to give it everything we have."
The Super Bowl takes place on 7 February (16) at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, marking the sporting event's 50th year.
The band's artistic director Phil Harvey also admitted his nerves, and has teased fans with the promise of some special guests.
Chris' ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow may well be one of the surprise guests, as she makes an appearance on the band's new album, A Head Full of Dreams. The pair parted ways in March 2014 after ten years of marriage, but have remained firm friends.
Gwyneth's actress mother Blythe Danner recently spoke to AARP The Magazine about her daughter's mega fame, revealing she never expected success to happen so quickly.
"It was just so darn fast, but she came into the world like that – like this meteor," Blythe gushed of her Oscar-winning offspring.
"I think it's worrisome when fame happens to your child so early. Bruce (Paltrow, Blythe's late husband) and I, having had careers more modest, never had that kind of scrutiny Gwyneth had, and we never had that kind of pressure. You hope they'll handle it, and I think Gwyneth handled it quite well, considering all the stuff we have to deal with now – the press and the things that aren't always wonderful."
