The 35-year-old Irish actor is dad to sons James, seven, and Henry, 22 months.
He said to UK newspaper Daily Record: 'A day off is about sleeping late, pottering around the house, having some dinner and hanging out with the boys.
'We just hang out or swim. Any time we can get into water, just hang out and swim, eat and go to the zoo and all that jazz - simple stuff.'
He added: 'I'm very fortunate that I can afford to do a film for three or four months and then take two months off. When I do film, I'm away from the family and friends so it's important for me to have a life outside of it.'
