Iman Abdulmajid refuses to let members of the press inside her home.
The 58-year-old former supermodel is married to rock star David Bowie.
It's important to both of them they maintain as normal a life as possible.
"Both David and I stay out of the celebrity thing. That's why we gravitated towards each other, because we really feel that the personal should be separate from the professional," she told Net-a-Porter's online magazine The Edit.
Iman is strict about the rule. She even said no to Oprah.
"I've never had any members of the press in my home. Oprah [Winfrey] tried to photograph my closet. I said, 'But it's in the apartment and nobody steps in there,'" she revealed.
The couple go out of their way to avoid being tailed be paparazzi when out and about.
She loves that New York gives her the freedom to be anonymous in a crowd.
"I still take my little girl to school," Iman said. "David picks her up. It's easier than any place we've ever lived. People are too cool to bother you."
Iman and David share a 12-year-old daughter, Alexandria.
The model says he's a great father. She also loves that he leaves the rock star persona at the door and is a well-read and wonderful role model who constantly challenges her.
"I married David Jones - I've never met David Bowie," Iman mused.
"He's very good for everyone, including me and the little one, because there is nothing he's not curious about. He reads every day for hours. We get daily deliveries from Amazon, and he also reads on his Kindle.
"He'll say, 'You've got to read this', and I'll say, 'But you've just given me five books that I haven't read yet!'"
