David Bowie has been considered one of the greatest artists in music history not only for the actual songs, but also for his sense of style.
That style was not lost on the people of the U.K. who have selected him as the best dressed Brit ever in a poll for BBC History magazine. Bowie received 48.5 percent of the vote, beating out Queen Elizabeth I who received 13.6%, Georgiana Cavendish with 9.5%, Beau Brummell with 8.4% and seven more who split the rest of the vote.
Of course, Bowie was the only living person included in the vote as selected by academics and fashion experts but that doesn't belittle the fact that he is one of the most enigmatic and stylish dressers of the last fifty years. From the elaborate stage costumes of his early incarnations to his impeccable dress when off the stage, Bowie has been a trendsetter for the length of his career.
Bowie was nominated for the poll by designer Wayne Hemingway who said "Here was a creative genius who understood art and design, looked cool, inspired us and upset the establishment. All these attributes lead to things that drive humankind forward… change."
