Dean Martin passed away sixteen years ago this past Christmas but you would hardly know he was gone based on the new releases coming in 2011.
Martin was popular from the late-40's through the 80's as a singer, actor and host of his own NBC TV show but, after his retirement from the limelight in 1990, his popularity faded. That all changed in the middle of the last decade with a resurgence of interest in Dean's music and his TV show, which became a regular fixture in late-night advertising blocks with a best of DVD set.
2011 will see a continuation of that renaissance with new CDs, DVDs and a book all dedicated to the singer.
May 24 is the first big release as The Best of the Dean Martin Show comes to DVD in a package available through retailers for the first time. Their will be three packages available, a single DVD with four episodes, a two-DVD set with seven episodes and a six-DVD collectors edition containing shows with more than fifty guests and eighty musical performances.
Then, on June 7, comes the release of a book/CD combo Cool Then, Cool Now. Included is a sixty-page book with numerous photos from the Martin family archive along with a two-CD/28 song best-of collection (see track listing below).
Also being released that day is Classic Dino: The Best of Dean Martin, a re-release of Dino: The Essential Dean Martin with six additional tracks.
Finally, a box set is being assembled for later in the year, although details remain sketchy.
