This October, DJ Yoda will be bringing the largest DJ competition in the world to the UK with Red Bull Thre3style, the DJ battle that takes the art of spinning to a new level. Mash up DJs will have 10 minutes to impress the Red Bull Thre3style crowd with their well-honed mixes, which must feature at least three genres of music.
Starting on the 2 October 2011 in Edinburgh at Lava & Ignite, the Red Bull Thre3style tour will also hit Nottingham Oceana (10/10), Swansea Oceana (12/10) and Kingston Oceana (19/10) with the final hosted in Southampton Oceana on 26 October (26/10). The winner will receive time in the Red Bull Studio, a cheque for £1,000 and an all expenses paid trip to Vancouver, the birthplace of Red Bull Thre3style, for their chance to be crowned international champion.
Red Bull Thre3style began in Canada four years ago and is now one of the biggest international DJ competitions, taking place in ten countries around the world. In the UK, DJ Yoda will head the search for the next party DJ hoping to make the grand final, judging at each event and also demonstrating his mixing skills with a throw-down set each night.
DJ Yoda said: ''m really excited about Red Bull Thre3style and getting the chance to check out some raw UK talent.'
"I will be looking for a DJ with excellent technical ability, but it's just as important that they can really control the crowd and keep them dancing all night. That complete DJ package is what we'll be searching for over the next few weeks.'
't's going to be a great competition and I can't wait to get started.'
The rules of Red Bull Thre3Style ensure that the competition is a perfect marriage of technical DJing and party rocking prowess. Participants have to play a selection of at least three genres or styles of music in 10 minutes. It doesn't matter what genres of music are chosen as long as the DJ can make them work together.
To enter, DJs can send a link to an mp3 mix to redbullthre3style@uk.redbull.com and all DJs will have to play off the same set up ' 2 x decks and mixer ' no mixing programmes are allowed and DJs are judged on track selection, creativity, mixing skills, stage presence and crowd reaction.
Internationally, the competition will be held in Spain, Bolivia, Argentina, France, Norway, New Zealand and the UK, making the event the most global DJ competition ever seen. Each country will hold qualifying DJ contests and the top national DJ will compete at the final in Vancouver in December 2011. The winner will be crowned the Red Bull Thre3Style champion and have the crowds' official stamp of approval that they can rock the party like nobody else.
