Drake's father has yet to listen to his new album.
The 29-year-old Canadian rapper released his latest record Views on 29 April (16), and it has already been a hit around the world. While Drake is thrilled with the reception to the album, there's one person who hasn't had chance to give him his views on it as yet - his father Dennis.
"My dad is in Shanghai right now and he FaceTimed me yesterday and he was like, 'Drake, I wanna tell you man, I got an RV for sale, man'. And I was like, 'What does that have to do with…? What am I…?'"Drake laughed during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night (12May16).
"And he was like, 'I'm in Shanghai, man, my friend's got this RV for sale'. And I said, 'Do you have any sort of idea what's going on back home? Like, do you know that I dropped this album?' And he goes, 'Yeah, man, I love it man, I love it'. So I said, 'Oh yeah, what's your favourite song?' And he went, 'Drake, man, I'm going to be honest with you, my service isn't too good out here man, but…' "
Drake has become a firm favourite with fans thanks to his genuinely affable personality, his hard working ethic and his song writing skills. For the latter, Drake credits his mother Sandi.
"I think I get the words from my mother - she's an English teacher, she taught kindergarten to Grade 5 - just one of the most intelligent people I've ever met… Scrabble champion too," Drake smiled. "She's a top shelf lady, a top shelf kind of gal, man.
"I get the words from her and then I get a lot from my father, you know."
It's certainly a busy week for Drake, as he will be the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend (14May16).
