Pop star Ellie Goulding is determined to write songs with positive messages for her female fans.
The Burn singer has become a role model for millions of people around the world, and the 29-year-old is well aware of how much attention her music garners, so she sets out to write tunes which resonate with her young devotees.
"I don't want girls to get to my age and feel like they're not pretty enough, not thin enough, or they're not good enough for something or someone," she told Seventeen magazine. "I'm naturally compassionate - that's something I really like about myself. I always consider other people before myself, and I think that's what I try to do with my music."
"I want to write lyrics that girls can relate to," she added. "I'm a girl; I know how hard it is... If girls are anything like me when I was a teenager, then I want them to know everything is going to be okay."
Ellie has been romantically linked to the likes of Niall Horan, Ed Sheeran and Skrillex in the past, and last month (Feb16) she split from Dougie Poynter after spending two years in a relationship with him.
However, in her Seventeen interview, the chart-topper maintains she and Ed were never in a relationship, and insists her song On My Mind is not about him.
"We've known each other for a few years," she began. "I think he's a really nice guy and a brilliant musician. We've bumped into each other and we've hung out and stuff, but the thing is if I hang out with someone, it's instantly like I'm 'dating' them. We were never in a relationship. My song is not about him."
She did, however, briefly date One Direction's Niall, and she is grateful for his continued friendship: "We're still friends. We went on a few dates, and it was really fun. He's a really, really lovely guy. He's got the biggest sense of humor, he's very caring, and I see him as a genuine friend in the industry."
Meanwhile, Ellie has assured fans she is not "quitting music" after her latest break-up. She confirmed the split in a new interview with Britain's The Sun newspaper, published on Thursday (10Mar16), when she admitted it's been tough dealing with the heartache in the public eye.
"I'm not in a relationship any more and that's been hard," Ellie confessed, before revealing she is planning a career hiatus to revamp her personal life once her Delirium world tour ends in October (16).
"I'm not writing new stuff," she said. "I'm not sure when I'll release a new album. It might not even be next year. I need time off for my own head."
Her comments prompted some fans to fear she was walking away from the music industry completely, but she has since taken to Twitter to insist she will be back after taking a well-deserved vacation.
"I am not quitting music, I've come too far for that!" she declared on Thursday afternoon. "Just having a break. It's been seven years since I had time off.... Love you all."
