Liquid Comics and Elvis Presley Enterprises have joined forces for Graphic Elvis, a limited edition book with illustrations of the singer by some of today's best comic book artists. Limited to 2,500 copies, the original version will be available for the holiday season followed by a mass-market edition in April 2012 and an iPad version later that year.
Among the artists contributing to the book are comic illustrators Paul Pope and Greg Horn along with others from as far flung styles as Japanese anime and Indian art.
Elvis once told a crowd at the Jaycees convention "When I was a child, I was a dreamer. I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book. So every dream I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times."
Sharad Devarajan, co-founder and CEO of Liquid Comics, said "Comics influenced so much of his life and made him a larger-than-life hero to so many people. It's paying homage to that on the 35th anniversary of his death and allowing today's generation of artists to do the same to him."
Also included among the illustrations are numerous hand-written notes and musings, rarely seen by the public and written in the margins of various books owned by Elvis.
The limited collectors edition is currently available for pre-order from Liquid Comics for $195.
