Celebrity Favorites: D.O.C.
Love is complicated, but when it comes to D.O.C.'s relationship with his daughter's mother, Erykah Badu, for him things are quite simple. "It's no confusion. That's my baby. I love Erykah, Erykah loves me," the former Dr. Dre protégé told on the red carpet at the BMI Urban Awards last month.
In an August interview with the Dallas Observer, Mr. No One Can Do It Better talked about his relationship with Badu and his hopes to film a reality show with the "Tyrone" singer, where in the end, the two get married. A few weeks after the article was printed, Badu's camp issued a statement saying that while the pair enjoys a very good parental relationship, "no romantic dynamic exists between the two." The notion of a reality show was also shot down. "The D.O.C.'s comments were either taken out of context, improperly interpreted or reflective of his now not-so-secret desires."
D.O.C. admitted to MTV News that maybe he went too far in the interview, but he also didn't believe that the response to his comments came from Badu herself. "I think she let one of her handlers get a hold of it," he said. "First of all, I was just playin' in the interview. I might've took it a little too far. She let her folks get back at me, but that's my baby's mother, and the bottom line is she is the perfect mother to my daughter Puma, who I am in love with, and that's all that really matters to me."
In addition to 7-year-old Puma, Badu has a 13-year-old son with Andre 3000 and a 2-year-old daughter with Jay Electronica. As far as any nuptials, the Doc fell back on that too. "I'm as married to Erykah as I'm gonna get. I don't need no rings to love her," he said. "I love Erykah and I know she loves me and we are both in love with that baby girl, and that's what it's really all about."
