Billboard today announced girl group Fifth Harmony as the recipient of the Group of the Year award for the brand's Women in Music.
Fifth Harmony (Syco / Epic Records) will perform at the 10th annual Billboard Women in Music ceremony. Lifetime, the exclusive broadcast partner, will air Women in Music on December 18, bringing the iconic event to a mass audience for the first time.
"Fifth Harmony defines the consummate group dynamic: five women with a strong, united voice," said Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media's Entertainment Group, which consists of Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter. "In the few short years since they formed on The X Factor, Fifth Harmony has managed to make chart-topping music and develop a legion of passionate fans around the world. They do it all so well, the very definition of a 'Group of the Year'.
The five-piece group has charted two top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, the Better Together EP and the full-length studio debut, Reflection, released earlier this year. With four top 40 hits on the Pop Songs chart, six top 40 entries on Billboard + Twitter top Tracks chart, and two top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, Fifth Harmony is best known for its top 10 smash "Worth It."
The 2015 Women in Music event will honor the best and brightest female artists of today, including Woman of the Year Lady Gaga, Chart Topper Selena Gomez, Powerhouse Brittany Howard, and Rulebreaker Demi Lovato. The program is held in conjunction with the publication of Billboard's Women in Music list, which selects the year's 50 most powerful female executives in the industry.
