The Flaming Lips may be up for a prestigious award at the Grammys next week, but frontman Wayne Coyne has explained that he'll quite happily give his award up to what he considers a more deserving winner. Does that make him a. A nice guy, b. A dick, c. Realise that he is in fact crap (answers at the end).
Coyne's outfit are up for the ‘Best Alternative Music Album' award for the ‘Fight Test EP' at the ceremony which takes place in Los Angeles on February 8.
However, the category sees The Lips up against Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Radiohead, Sigur Rós and The White Stripes, and Coyne reckons he'd rather not receive the prize.
"In a way I hope we don't win because there are some fantastic records in the same category like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Radiohead and White Stripes," Coyne told Undercover News, "Our contender is a pretty flimsy EP with a couple of new songs and two or three remixes. I hope they don't pay too much attention to us".
Coyne's fears also seem to stem from a traumatic experience watching the Grammy's back in 1971.
Answer - c.
