Fun Lovin' Criminals new album

Recorded on a specially kitted-out 40ft yacht anchored in New York's Hudson River, the new Fun Lovin' Criminals album is an ode to the city in which they live and love. The good-ship DiFontaine houses an immense array of equipment specially selected by MC Large, Fisty-cuffs and Frank The Rhythm Man (Leicester Massive) along with long-time recording co-hort Captain Tim Latham.

On the phone from the streets of Dublin, Huey is espousing the joys of open-water sailing. He has just arrived in Dublin port after a week on the high seas aboard HMS DiFontaine on which they made the journey from New York City to the Irish shores. The occasion is a performance on the Late Late Show and a chat with host Pat Kenny about Huey's role in the legendary film Headrush. After a year of film festival appearances it is now open in Irish cinemas.

The album opens with I Love Livin' In The City â€" “that's about how I love livin' in the city, cause I do. But not for all the touristy bits â€" the nice cultural things. I like that it's kind of fucked up,” Huey says. “You know, I think that appeals to people about New York.” The first single will be the summer-tinged Mi Corazon â€" “a loosely-based autobiographical story about a girl that I loved who don't love me no more,' Huey says.

That Ain't Right comes from hearing so many people say this to him in the past. “You know, you used to hear that expression all the time. You'd hear someone say “Hey, that ain't right!”. And it's like, what ain't right? But then you get all fucked up and think you're the man. Then the next day you realize you acted like a dick. And this song is about those moments.”

Huey remembers how they came up with their reinterpreted Love Story, “Fast and Frank were working in London and had put the music together for what became Where Do I Begin? and I was back in New York. I was just thinking about all these weird things that go on in New York. I was by myself and all my boys were out of town and I realized my only friend in the town was the town itself.
