The Australian singer decided to take part in the trek in Peru to raise cash for Breast Cancer Care. It’s a charity which is close to the 18-year-old’s heart because her mother Paula suffered from the disease when she was a child.
“My mom had breast cancer when she was 34. She’s been in remission ten years and is my inspiration,” Gabriella explained. “I’m doing the walk to show her how much she means to me. It’ll be emotional anyway, but with the altitude I’ll probably be bawling my eyes out.”
Gabriella finds it hard to discuss her mother’s illness. She hated seeing her so poorly, explaining she tries not to think about the period too much.
“She had gorgeous curly hair and my dad’s a hairdresser so he always created beautiful hairstyles for her,” she told Look magazine. “Chemotherapy made her hair fall out – that was so hard to watch.”
