George Harrison has been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The late Beatles guitarist - who died of lung cancer in 2001, aged 58 - was posthumously awarded the honour in a star-studded ceremony held outside the Capitol Records tower, where the plaque is situated, in Los Angeles yesterday (14.04.09).
Fellow Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, 'Monty Python' actor Eric Idle, actor Tom Hanks and more than 1,000 fans turned out to see the unveiling of the star.
Idle described Harrison as a "remarkable person", but insisted he would not have been impressed with the tribute.
He said: "I was thinking, 'What would George think about a star on the Walk of Fame?' And I thought I heard his voice say, 'It's a load of old b*****ks.' "
Harrison's widow Olivia and his musician son Dhani, 30, also attended the ceremony.
Olivia said: "He was a beautiful, mystical man living in a material world, and he was as funny as the day is long, and just as perplexing. George, this day is for you."
Referencing Harrison's solo album 'All Things Must Pass', Hanks added: "All things must pass, sure. But George is going to live forever."
McCartney did not speak at the service, but waved to fans and thanked them for attending.
