Gerard Way has admitted that he doesn't feel his forthcoming Reading + Leeds performance is the right time to play My Chemical Romance songs.
The singer is set to play one of his first ever live solo shows at the festival, which is preceded by a warm-up gig in Portsmouth tonight.
Speaking of the warm-up gig's Wedgewood Room location, Way told NME: "I asked my booking agent , I said, 'I want to play a really great shithole', and I use the term shithole in very loving way. All of my favourite shows have been in shitholes, so maybe I should come up with a different word for that - maybe room with character."
As to whether he'll be playing an MCR songs in his festival set, the singer said: "There was a moment when I was weighing up the options, but it just doesn't feel like the right time yet. I didn't feel this strong urge to do it.
"I also wouldn't want to false advertise, I don't think it's the sort of thing I'm going to be doing a lot. If it does happen in the future it will be because it's the right thing to do."
Gerard Way plays in Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth tonight (20 August) ahead of his set at Reading + Leeds this weekend (22-24 August).
