Glen Campbell has decided it's just about time to hang up the guitar and get a little rest. The guitarist and singer, whose career spans studio work, recording, TV and movies, will release his final studio album this summer followed by a tour.
Julian Raymond is producing Ghost on the Canvas, the same man who helmed his 2008 album Meet Glen Campbell, and says that there were people lining up to participate on the recording. Included on the album are Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, Chris Isaak and Jakob Dylan.
It sounds like the new album will also follow in the footsteps of the previous disc in trying to build a new audience. Meet Glen Campbell saw quite a bit of interest from college age students along with the singer's regular fans due to covers of songs by numerous modern acts. Raymond says of the new album "It's not your mother's Glen Campbell. He's playing guitar better than ever, singing and writing better than ever. It's really going to be a great final statement from him."
It does sound, though, as if Campbell may be stretching the meaning of the words retire and final. Plans are already underway to record a live unplugged greatest hits album.
