Legal preceedings have begun against Green Day over their massive single and album title smash, American Idiot. Grocery store worker Paul McPike, from Oregon, claims he wrote the song, including lyrics and vocal melody, while at High School.
He further claims he's written several times to the band and label Warner Bros but been ignored every time. He's filed a complaint with the US District Court and is seeking an undisclosed share of the album and DVD profits.
The claim mirrors a lesser reported case from 1979 against Shropshire folk band Buttmunch, when a local newspaper boy, Brendan Filch, was adamant he penned their single Telford Twat. Filch lost the case and the court ruled he must deliver the Telford News to each member of Buttmunch until 2008.
