A MUSICAL version of Green Day's American Idiot album is set to premiere in California this autumn.
The stage adaptation of the Grammy-winning album, directed by Tony award-winning director Michael Mayer, will open at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September.
The New York Times said the band - lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, drummer Tre Cool and bassist Mike Dirnt - are credited with the show's music and have collaborated with Mayer on the stage version.
Armstrong said: "It doesn't make a lot of sense but that's what I love about it.
"When people see it, it's going to be my wildest dream."
Mayer told the newspaper there were no plans for a Broadway run for the musical but said the show was likely to continue after its one-month run in Berkeley.
American Idiot has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide and won Grammys for rock album and record of the year.
Hits from the album include the title track, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Wake Me Up When September Ends.
Green Day announced last week their new album 21st Century Breakdown will be released on May 15th.
