Green Day Return To Road In 2013, Thank Fans For Support

Following singer Billie Joe Armstrong's stint in rehab to deal with unspecified substance issues,
 Green Day announced on Monday (December 31) that they are ready to hit the road in support of their trifecta of 2012 albums.

"We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months," the band said in a statement announcing the dates, which are slated to kick off on March 28 with a show at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. "We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again, though we regret having to cancel more shows."

While the new slate of gigs includes 11 new dates, Green Day also announced the cancellation of 10 previously scheduled shows in January and February.

"Dear friends ... I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months," wrote Armstrong in the statement. "Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I'm getting better everyday. So now, without further ado, the show must go on. We can't wait to get on the road and live out load! Our passion has only grown stronger." To date, no information has been released about what substances Armstrong was battling or how long he has spent in rehab.

In late September, Green Day announced that Armstrong was entering rehab following his on-stage meltdown at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. Armstrong launched into a rant during Green Day's September 21 performance after being told that the band needed to wrap up their set, shouting "I'm not f---ing Justin Bieber, you motherf-----s. You've got to be f---ing joking ... I got one minute left." Green Day then smashed their instruments before departing the stage. And earlier that month, Green Day was also forced to cancel a concert in Italy after Armstrong was hospitalized. His bandmates would subsequently tell MTV News that he had "severe dehydration,"
 though he recovered in time to perform at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

Following Armstrong's hospitalization, the band canceled a series of promotional performances, a headline slot at the October 27 Voodoo Music + Arts Experience festival in New Orleans and their remaining 2012 dates while postponing the 2013 dates.

Tickets for the postponed shows will be honored on the new dates and refunds will be available for the gigs that have been canceled. More West coast shows will be announced in early 2013.
